London – Britain's Health Protection Agency says 7 people in the U.K. have been confirmed with a new strain of E. coli which has left 17 people dead across Europe, almost all of them in Germany, and infected 1,500.
The agency said Thursday that all the infected had recently visited Germany.
It did not immediately offer any further details indicating where the cases had been uncovered, or how recently the victims had visited Germany.
But the agency insisted that there was no evidence that the source of this infection was inside Britain.
The country's Food Standards Agency has also said there is no evidence of contaminated food being imported into the U.K.
