A New Jersey waitress who received a rude note on her customers’ receipt says she’s not going to let the “hurtful” message diminish her spirits.

Lorena Bossi opened up about finding the restaurant receipt – on which the diners allegedly scribbled the words “Don’t Tip Immigrants” – while working a shift at the Under the Moon Café in Bordentown on Thursday night.

Bossi, who was born in America, says the couple enjoyed their service very much, but somehow changed their tune by the time the check came. She also said that they may have believed her to be an immigrant after she briefly conversed in Spanish with a fellow employee, thanking him for helping her clean up.

"It was so weird that they had just transitioned from loving me as a person to all of a sudden, 'Oh, she speaks Spanish? She must be an immigrant. Let's leave.'"

News of the incident was first shared to Facebook on Saturday by the restaurant’s owner, Santiago Orosco.

“Immigration and cultural blending are what created this special country; I truly believe that immigrants are key contributors to our society. Also, I am gay, at Under the Moon we accept all people but not ignorance and discrimination,” he wrote in his post.

Orosco, who identified himself as a proud immigrant, also wrote that the couple was no longer welcome at the Under the Moon Café. But even if they were to come back, Bossi told ABC7 she would still treat in the same “kind” way she says she did on Thursday.

“I'm not going to let someone's hate fill my heart with hate because that's not how I was raised,” said Bossi.
