Taco Bell keeps pushing the limits when it comes to belt-busting, fast food mashups.
The Mexican-American chain is testing two versions of a new Core burrito— essentially one burrito wrapped in another, with a gooey core of queso.
According to Brand Eating, the Core burritos are now being rolled out in Toledo, Ohio area locations.
The Spicy Core Burrito appears to feature an outer layer of meat (seasoned ground beef, chicken, or steak), a middle layer of rice and hot sauce, all surrounding a core of nacho cheese, shredded cheese and jalapenos stuffed inside another tortilla.
The Crunchy Core Burrito features the same outer layers as the Spicy version but with an interior of nacho cheese, shredded cheese, and red tortilla strips for extra bite.
The dish is basically a reverse Quesarito—a burrito wrapped in a quesadilla that debuted in 2014. Or the chain could just be taking note of Ben & Jerry's successful core ice cream line.
Both Core burritos start at $1.99 for the seasoned ground beef version.
