Steve Harvey has quickly learned how powerful a good shave can be.
The "Family Feud" and "Steve" host, known for his distinct, thick black mustache, ditched his signature mustache several months ago — and fans still can't seem to get over it -- Ellen DeGeneres included. During an appearance on "The Ellen Show" Monday the star was asked why he decided to completely change "his whole look."
His answer, of course, was just as hilarious as you would imagine.
STEVE HARVEY SHOCKED BY CRUDE 'FAMILY FEUD ANSWER'
"I was on vacation, and I actually left my Just For Men at home because I had been dying my mustache, you know, black," he told DeGeneres. "So I left it at home ... So I didn't dye it. So the rest of it started growing in. Next thing I knew, I went, 'Damn! This either going to be sexy or I'm ugly as hell — one of the two.'"
Following the advice of his wife, Marjorie, Harvey said he decided to keep his full gray beard and put away the black hair dye — at least, for now.
"I love it," DeGeneres said, adding that it "looks great."
Harvey shot an applauding audience a skeptical look before laughing.
STEVE HARVEY SLAMMED FOR HIS RESPONSE TO WIFE'S 'IGNORANT' COMMENT
"Yeah, I mean, there's some haters ... haters always. They just don't like nothing," Harvey, 61, said. "One dude said, 'You look old.' I said, 'Wait a minute. I've been living more than half a century ... plus a decade, plus two more damn years. Dog, I am old!' Old is the goal though."
The TV personality then joked that the beard has actually made him smarter.
"I know more now," he said, adding that his grandchildren are constantly testing him.
In August, Harvey said he wanted to "reinvent" himself before kicking off a new season of his talk show "Steve."
"When I was 49, about to turn 50, I went bald," Harvey told Entertainment Tonight at the time. "I always had a mustache, you just didn't know I had one 'cause I had hair too."
Harvey revealed he actually tried ditching the stache a year ago, too.
"Last year was the first time I had a summer off, so I didn't shave. I grew a beard out," he added "But last year there wasn't enough gray in the mustache yet. It looked like I had stuff in it. So I had to wait another year."
But if Marjorie asks him to bring the black mustache back, Harvey said he wouldn't refuse.
"I might keep it, I might not, I don't know, man. It's really up to the wife," he added.
