Stephen Belafonte has slammed claims he abused wife Mel B, denying reports he beat his wife and sent her to hospital and saying he wasn’t aware of media reports the pair have split.
“No one has accused me of anything,” he told the MailOnline.
Speculation about abuse has been running rife since Mel B was forced to miss the UK X Factor final after she was rushed to hospital with illness.
When she returned to TV, fans noticed the star was covered in bruises and scratches, and had ditched her wedding ring.
However, Belafonte says no one has accused him of beating his wife, and that her hospital stay was because of an illness.
“Who accused me of it?” he said. “Did she accuse me of it, the police the hospital, who accused me of it? I thought when you beat someone us the police or the hospital or the person you beat up says it.”
“I had nothing to do with hurting my wife. I did not touch Mel. I wasn’t cheating of anything. There was no girl involved.”
Earlier this week, Belafonte took to Twitter to dispute abuse claims, calling claims he hit his wife “disgusting and untrue”.
Belafonte refused to deny the couple have split, saying he wasn’t even aware of media speculation about their relationship.
“Really, I didn’t know that,” he said when asked about reports the couple are over.
“Listen, I had no idea, I don’t know … I’m not disputing it, I didn’t know, I had no idea.”
Belafonte confirmed he is now in Los Angeles, with The Mirror reporting he was being accompanied by the couple’s nanny.
Mel B has not commented on the reports. The pair have a three year old daughter, Madison.
Belafonte was charged with beating girlfriend Nicole Contreras in 2007, which he denies, reports The Mirror.
