Shakira Says She Has No Plans Of Returning To ‘The Voice’

Shakira has been a ray of sunshine on NBC’s “The Voice” but it looks like that will be ending when the show airs its finale later this month.

The Colombian singer told reporters on Tuesday that her busy schedule could make it difficult for her to return for the show’s eighth season in 2015.

“For now, no, I don’t have any plans of coming back,” Shakira said. “This was always a temporary thing for me to do.”

The 37-year-old, who is slated to perform at the Billboard Music Awards, joined the singing competition as a coach in the fourth season, temporarily replacing fellow Latina Christina Aguilera. She returned to the hit show for its current sixth run.

While it’s not in her plans to return, Shakira did not fully commit to quitting altogether, adding: “You never know.”

“I never thought I would be on a show like this one,” she said. “But the nature of the show, you know, the fact that we’re not just judges here, we’re coaches, we’re helping new talent flourish, made me change my mind and made me say yes to being here.”

She continued: “Honestly, I’ve had a blast. I love the show. I love the people on the show, the producers, the fellow coaches. It’s been real fun.”

“But right now, I have to go on with my life as an artist,” she added. “I’m not really a TV celebrity and I have to prep a tour and also do other stuff, like being a mother.”

Gwen Stefan and Pharrell Williams have signed up as new coaches for its seventh season, replacing outgoing coaches Aguilera and Cee Lo Green. They will be joining regulars Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

“The Voice” will air its sixth season finals on May 19 and 20.
