Actress Sandra Bullock opened up about the very difficult 2018 she had in which she lost both her father and two family pets.

The 54-year-old star of “Bird Box” appeared on Thursday’s episode of “Ellen” where she talked with host Ellen DeGeneres about the emotionally hefty time she’s been going through and how it all came to a head with her crying in the bathtub.

“Life happens whether you schedule it or not,” Bullock began her story. “That just blew my mind, this year. My dad died, and then while my dad was failing, we get a call - from the nanny, same nanny - that our dog Ruby, the two-legger, had a stroke. “

Bullock says she asked to put the dog on life support but learned that wasn’t an option and that it was suffering. She felt her dad was settled and went home telling herself, “OK, there’s a reason for this.”

Days later, she was told her father wasn’t doing well. The nanny then approached her and informed her that her other dog had a tumor on its heart and would die in a matter of days.

“And I was like, ‘I’m going to be fine,” she said. “And then a week later I'm in the bathtub crying and the kids are like, ‘Is mommy OK?’ And everyone is like, ‘Just leave mommy in the bathtub, she's going to be fine.’ So you know, it's life, but when you lose your little rides or die, it makes things different.”

Bullock recently made headlines after suggesting a rather unorthodox solution to the ongoing Oscars hosting situation. After losing Kevin Hart as this year’s host, Bullock recently suggested that actors and actresses in the crowd be randomly selected to participate.
