Texting is not something “Hamilton” creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda will stand for – even if it’s Madonna who's doing it.
According to the New York Daily News’ Confidenti@l column, Madonna caught the evening performance of the hip-hop musical about the life of Alexander Hamilton at the Public Theater on Saturday, but instead of taking in the show, she spent the second act glued to her phone.
After the show, Miranda came up to the stage to urge the audience to donate to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and took a swipe at the "Material Girl."
He mentioned that someone in the audience – no name mentioned, but he did say that it was someone who had done a lot of texting during the performance – could afford to contribute a lot, Confidenti@l reported.
The Tony winner for “In the Heights” went further after he left the stage, denying the pop superstar backstage access. He later tweeted, “Tonight was the first time I asked stage management NOT to allow a celebrity (who was texting all through Act 2) backstage #noselfieforyou.”
Miranda’s tweet was later deleted.
Publicists for Miranda or Madonna have not commented on the matter.
“Hamilton,” which is headed to Broadway later this summer, has been attracting many A-list stars like Jake Gyllenhaal, Michal J. Fox, Matthew Morrison, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and even Michelle Obama.
The First Lady attended the matinee performance on Saturday. Miranda thanked Obama for attending and asked for donations in the form of different presidents: Washingtons, Lincolns and, yes, Hamiltons.
“There aren’t any Obamas yet, but give it a few decades,” he quipped, according to Confidenti@l.
