“Ray Donovan” wrapped its fourth season back in September, but the cast said fans have plenty to look forward to when the series returns this summer.

Embeth Davidtz, who plays Sonia Kovitzy on the show, said viewers will be surprised by the upcoming episodes of the series.

“It shocks… Some real shocks and twists and turns… Some unexpected stuff.”

While, executive producer David Hollander promised viewers will get to know the Donovan family better with Season 5.

“You can expect an intense look at the Donovan family in a way we have never seen them before… Really intense relationship season and Hollywood.”

This season, Ray (played by Liev Schreiber) attempts to return to the fold of his family and the church in the wake of his confession to Father Romero. But his second chance is tested when he meets professional boxer Hector Campos and his volatile sister.

Paula Malcomson, who plays Ray's wife Abby, said the show isn’t always fun to film.

“I think it’s more fun to watch the show than to do the show,” she said. “I think it’s a tough show to do. It’s a lot of testosterone but we always find a way because there is a lot of dark material so we find our way to have our fun.”

Malcomson said the show has taught her to be patient.

“You are with the same people for five years so you learn. It’s like putting up with a family. You have to dig deep and dig a big hole for yourself and invest in the process.”

And Hollander said he always had a hunch that “Ray Donovan” was going to be a hit. Schreiber stars alongside Jon Voight, Steven Bauer, Dash Mihok and Eddie Marsan.

“It’s hard to deny this cast…” he said. “I don’t think there is an ensemble out there that is this rich and has so much depth. If any show was going to be successful based on the cast it was this one.”
