Prince Albert says his mom Grace's dream was to help dancers and performing artists

Monaco’s Prince Albert II says his ever-elegant mother, Princess Grace, wouldn’t be keeping up with the Kardashians if she were alive today.

“To actually help not only dancers, but other performing artists was really her dream,” he told The New York Post at Friday’s Princess Grace Foundation-USA awards luncheon honoring emerging talent in theater, dance and film.

“[Reality TV] is one aspect she would have not cared for too much. It’s making heroes out of people who sometimes do have talent, but sometimes don’t. It’s too intrusive and the voyeuristic aspect of it all bothers me, and I know it would have bothered her.”

As the eldest son of the Oscar-winning actress and the late Prince Rainer III of Monaco, Albert says he was more star-struck in the presence of a certain world leader than any entertainer.

“[I was in awe of] Nelson Mandela,” explained Albert, 57. “To go into his office and see the very simple way in which he received us and his personality and calmness – the way he talked about his wife and struggles. This whole discourse and attitude and profoundness was extremely inspiring.”

But he was among the many who couldn’t get close to Pope Francis during the pontiff’s Friday morning visit to the United Nations.

“I actually couldn’t even shake his hand personally, but I have met him in Rome before – that is someone who is very impressive.”
