So what does it take these days to get invited to the Oscars? It seems not much.
TV stars like Brandi Glanville, Olivia Munn, and Kristin Chenoweth were early guests spotted on the Academy Awards red carpet, leaving some wondering if perhaps they’d tuned in for the Emmys instead of the Oscars.
“Chilling at the ... Oscars... Um yep!,” Glanville tweeted as the red carpet for the show kicked off.
It seemed most of the more random attendees at the show got their invites by taking on hosting gigs for the night—playing reporter alongside veteran newscasters.
Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland and Chenoweth teamed up with ABC’s Lara Spencer for their Oscars coverage, while Glanville was critiquing fashion for On the Red Carpet’s online broadcast.
As the ABC red carpet coverage kicked off, Chenoweth gushed about her fellow celebrities fashion choices, as she interviewed stars like Jessica Chastain and Amanda Seyfried. Rowland took on a similar role as she chatted with Channing Tatum.
Spencer and Robin Roberts anchored the network’s red carpet coverage, relying on their years of interviewing experience to balance out the seemingly random team.
Some viewers, however, still didn’t seem to respond well to celebrity reporters.
“Amanda seyfried [with] Kristin Chenoweth: Holy hell was that interview a trainwreck. #oscars,” one viewer tweeted.
“Honestly, what is with Kristin Chenoweth? I have a headache just from watching,” another wrote.
Others seemed to support the famous faces conducting the interviews.
“Kelly Rowland, Kristin Chenoweth, Lara Spencer & Robin Roberts are killing the red carpet! #OscarRedCarpet”
