Michael Alig reveals he's homeless: 'I started going on Grindr hookups just to have someplace to sleep'

A recent reversal in fortune has forced “Club Kid Killer” Michael Alig to spend at least one night sleeping under a bridge.

In the latest episode of his and Ernie Glam’s web series “Peeew,” posted to YouTube on Monday, Alig, 52, revealed he’s currently homeless after falling out with the owners of the Art Factory in Patterson, N.J., where he’d been working as an artist, and presumably living, as recently as this spring.

“I was first staying in hotels. … But that adds up and it was eating up all my money. Because they gave me some money to leave the first building. So I had some money saved, but when that ran out I was hustling all day long trying to raise $150 to pay for the hotel and then by the time I’d raised that money it was time to raise another $150. So all my time was spent trying to survive and living in hotels. Eventually, that money ran out and I couldn’t really deal with the stress it was causing.”

Because of that, the ex-club promoter, who served 17 years in prison for manslaughter before his 2014 release, turned to Grindr for help.

“So I started going on Grindr hookups just to have someplace to sleep,” he continued. “You know it’s funny, when you go on a Grindr hookup and you want to leave they want you to stay and when you want to stay they want you to leave. So I had to pretend that I wanted to leave and they’d go, ‘No stay, stay!’ Which it worked, by the way. So I did that, going back and forth between that and people’s couches.”

But as with his money, his luck with Grindr eventually ran out, too. After exhausting his options on the app, Alig recently found himself walking back to Manhattan from the Bronx when an unexpected confluence of events ended with him spending the night under a bridge.

“My legs were tired and I just wanted a place to sit down away from the maddening crowds, so I took a look down this ramp, on the highway, there was like a construction site down there and I just walked along until I saw a place where I could sit down,” he explained. “And I must’ve passed out because I woke up the next afternoon at three o’clock, it was like a completely different scene of jackhammers and people walking around, and I woke up and was like, ‘Oh my god, I’m living under a bridge.’”

While an exact timeline for his homelessness is never given, Alig had not appeared on either of the last two “Peeew” episodes, his most recent appearance on the show before Monday coming on June 1.

As for why it took him so long to speak out about his plight, Alig, who has struggled to stay out of trouble since his release from prison, explained, “I didn’t really want to publicize it too much because I didn’t want it to end up on Page Six. It would be embarrassing.”

Page Six left Alig a phone message seeking additional comment on Tuesday.
