One of the faces of fashion designer Stella McCartney’s new perfume, Pop, is none other than Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes Leon.
Leon, who is known as “Lola,” is one of four young stars who are part of the Pop campaign.
Madonna's daughter with Carlos Leon, a Cuban-American actor and trainer who was Madonna’s boyfriend in the 1990s, was last in the spotlight for fashion in 2010, when she helped publicize the Material Girl clothing line with her mom.
McCartney – herself the child of Beatles member Paul McCartney and his late wife, Linda – gushed about Leon in an Instagram post.
“So happy to have Lola on the Pop team!” McCartney captioned the post. “Lola, who I’ve known her entire life, is at the beginning of her career as a performance artist. She’s an independent, inspirational and free-spirited young woman. Despite being born in the spotlight, she has kept her feet firmly on the ground!”
Lourdes Leon has avoided the spotlight for the most part.
“I have a lot of people judging my every move,” she recently told Vogue. “It’s important for me to not let it rule my life.”
She was drawn to the Pop perfume because of her friendship with McCartney.
“I go through this struggle myself, [where] women’s bodies have been made so public that everyone feels like they need to comment,” she said.
Pop’s message is to be yourself and value creativity and uniqueness.
“I love when someone doesn’t pretend to be someone they are not,” she told Vogue.
Leon is majoring in performing arts at the University of Michigan, her mother’s home state. The other three models in the Pop ad campaign are actress Amandla Stenberg, Canadian singer Grimes – whose given named is Claire Boucher – and Kenya Kinski-Jones, the model, student, animal activist and daughter of Quincy Jones and Nastassja Kinski, according to People magazine.
