Leah Remini says she is still trying to adjust to life outside of Scientology

Leah Remini made headlines when she publicly broke with the Church of Scientology in 2013. In a new clip from her TLC reality show, "Leah Remini: It's All Relative," the star opened up on facing "hard repercussions" after making her decision to leave.

"If you make a stink in the public world, they call you a suppressive person, which means the church has put a stamp on you that says you are bad," the actress says in the clip obtained by PEOPLE. "They then go to all your family and friends and say you have to disconnect from this suppressive person."

While the church would not comment on Remini's departure in 2013, they did tell PEOPLE, "It comes as no surprise that someone as self-absorbed as Leah Remini continues to rewrite history and exploit her former religion in a pathetic attempt to get ratings for her cable show and seem relevant again."

Remini explained her reason behind leaving Scientology was so her daughter would not grow up in the church.

"I decided I didn't want to raise my daughter in the church because from what I've experience and what I saw, the church becomes your everything. It becomes your mother, your father, your everything. You are dependent on the church."

Season two of "Leah Remini: It's All Relative" airs Wednesday on TLC.
