'X-Factor' judges reveal expectations

L.A. Reid didn’t enjoy his experience judging “The X Factor” at all.

In fact, the 59-year-old music executive called his stint the “worst thing I’ve ever done.”

Reid, who heads up Epic records, dished on his experience this weekend in Cannes.

“The first season, yes, I had a great time,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “It was a little bit of a vacation. I’d been making music, working at running labels for a long time, and it was a little bit of, ‘Let me just have some fun.’ But the second season I was fully engaged trying to run a label, and it wasn’t fun anymore.”

Reid also says being on the show from 2011 to 2012 nearly destroyed his taste in music.

“It completely thew me off,” Reid said before plugging his upcoming book. “But yeah, what works for television isn’t necessarily the thing that works in the traditional journey of music, so I adjusted my taste for television. But the truth is, I lowered my bar — my bar was quite high, if I’m being honest, and as a result I didn’t have the same level of success.”

His experience behind the judge’s panel echoed Mariah Carey’s less than fond memories of being on “American Idol.” The diva confessed in late May that her stint was “boring and so fake.”
