LOS ANGELES – In 2009, Katie Holmes joined forces with celebrity stylist Jeanne Yang to launch the upscale fashion line Holmes & Yang. Little attention was given to the high-end, boutique collection, as it was only affordable to the ultra rich, high-fashion set.
That all changed when Holmes divorced Tom Cruise.
The Holmes & Yang line is currently limited for purchase at select Barney’s stores across the country and Harvey Nichols in London. A clerk from the Beverly Hills Barney's told us that in the wake of Holmes’s high-profile divorce, her line has been selling particularly well. The New York store concurred that the celebrity-designed collection had been doing very well since the split, and a Dallas representative noted that while they don’t sell the line, they are now getting queries about it from enthusiastic shoppers.
And soon you may not have to go to Barney's to get your Katie-designed duds. Days after Holmes filed for divorce and sole custody; the label said they would also be showing their collection for the first time at New York Fashion Week this September.
“Every editor will be at the Spring 2013 Holmes & Lang showing this September at New York's Fashion Week. Katie's divorce and the masterful manner in which she handled it, is shining a light onto anything that she does at this moment,” David Zyla, Emmy Award-winning stylist and author of “The Color of Style,” told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column. “This is a dream publicity opportunity for the label. The buyers will actually place their orders after the September show for delivery in February, so we will (have a better idea of its success) in the fall season.”
Zyla said Holmes could have a major hit on her hands.
“Provided that the collection is on-trend as well as purchased and merchandised well by the store buyers, I predict a tremendous amount of interest in the collection at the retail level when it hits stores next February,” he continued. “The retail customer will pay the collection special notice, not only due to the styling but as art created by a role model who they respect for handling what would have been such a messy situation with such ease and poise.”
And with all prying paparazzi cameras now trailing Holmes’s every move, the former “Dawson’s Creek” star has taken advantage of the photo opps and worn her collection out multiple times – donning everything from sailor pants to camisoles.
Katie probably lost at least one Holmes & Yang fan, though. Last month, Tom Cruise boasted that he wore a “bespoke Holmes & Yang suit” while accepting the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award. Yang has been Cruise’s personal stylist for several years, but it is not clear if they will continue their professional association following the end of his marriage.
