Rumors of Shakira’s pregnancy have been causing a social media firestorm. And now, fellow Colombian singer Carlos Vives may have added more fuel to the flames.
The singer supposedly confirmed that Shakira and soccer boyfriend Gerard Pique are expecting their second child while speaking at Premios Juventud 2014 in Miami.
However, a story on the front cover of Quien magazine claims Vives’ comments were taken out of context.
“(If) she is pregnant, what a blessing,” Vives told a reporter for Televisa at the award ceremony, in Spanish.
Shakira and Vives are close friends.
While neither Shakira nor Pique have confirmed the rumor, stories of a second pregnancy started after the “Hips Don’t Lie” performed during the World Cup’s closing ceremony, where she wore a more conservative outfit and her famous flat tummy was a tad pudgy.
Colombian news outlets reportedly confirmed the news following the tournament, saying the singer was three months pregnant and taking precautions with her health and nutrition.
Raul de Molina, co-host of the popular Univision show, “El Gordo y La Flaca,” (“The Fat Man and the Skinny Woman”) also said on his show that according to a source, the couple is expecting a baby girl this fall.
In a subsequent interview with People En Español, Molina said, “Sources very close to the singer Shakira have confirmed that she is indeed pregnant and that the parents are more than happy because she is expecting a girl.”
Shakira, 37 and Piqué, 27, have been in a relationship since 2010, after meeting during the filming of her music video for “Waka Waka,” the official song of the 2010 World Cup. They have 1-year-old son, Milan.
