'Dancing With the Stars': Helio Castroneves Jumps, Jives and Scores

Hélio Castroneves showed the world he can do more than Samba on the dance floor.

The Brazilian race car driver, who has won the Indianapolis 500 race multiple times, jived his way Monday night on “Dancing With the Stars: All Stars Edition.”

Donning a fuchsia pink blazer, black pants and a white shirt, Castroneves and his dance partner Chelsie Hightower were jumping, twirling and kissing each other throughout the upbeat routine.

“You got kisses all over your face now!" said dancing expert Carrie Ann Inaba. “You were right on it,” Inaba continued. “Last week I was underwhelmed with your performance. It’s hard because you have so much charm going on up here (points to face), but sometimes the body doesn’t keep up. This week your body caught up to the charm going on in your face. Fantastic!”

Fellow judges and dance professionals Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli agreed with Inaba and gave Castroneves good feedback mixed in with constructive criticism.

“You got style with a smile, I tell you,” said Goodman, known to be the toughest judge in the panel. “You always got this great smile and for jive that is what you want. You want joy, fans and entertainment, and we saw that.”

“Carrie Ann is right, lovely shot kick and fix,” he continued. “Occasionally I thought you were pumping your knees a little bit too high.You got a little bit overenthusiastic. But overall I thought it was fabulous. Well done.”

Inaba gave Castroneves a solid eight points (out of 10), while Goodman gave the race car driver a seven and a half.

“For me it was a delicious treat of a jive,” dance specialist Bruno Tonioli said. “It was sweet… Len is right, sometimes you pump it a little bit too high, and then you landed on the wrong foot when you came up the steps,” he said, adding that those were just “tiny little things that need to be pointed out.”

“It doesn’t take away from the fun of the dance,” Tonioli said, following his suggestions to Castroneves with a score of seven and a half.

Castroneves and Hightower finished with a score of 23 points (out of 30) for this week. Last week they scored 21.5, which leaves them in the middle of the scoreboard.

On Tuesday night, Castroneves and the rest of the contestants will find out if America liked their routines enough to keep them in the competition for another week.

DWTS co-host Tom Bergeron will be conducting live interviews of the dancers, as last year’s runner up opera singer Katherine Jenkings will be performing with Spanish music legend Plácido Domingo.
