Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell of “The Bachelor” fame have officially ended their relationship.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways,” the former couple told PEOPLE Magazine in a statement on Monday. “We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another. We wish nothing but the best for each other, and ask for your support and understanding at this time.”

The duo met on Higgins’ season of “The Bachelor,” which first premiered in January 2016. Higgins ultimately chose Bushnell and soon proposed to her. The 29-year-old did face some controversy when he told both Bushnell and contestant JoJo Fletcher that he loved them during the Fantasy Suites episode.

Despite the news, the 27-year-old continued her relationship with Higgins and even moved to his hometown of Denver shortly after they announced their engagement following the season finale in March.

“Throughout this whole show airing and conversations we’ve had about decisions and life, it hasn’t always been easy,” said Higgins to the celebrity news publication at the time. “But it’s added a whole new level to our relationship. And [the show ultimately] led me to this woman who I love deeply. She’s the only woman I’ll love from now on.”
