Adele credits Sarah Palin for her success

Adele says Sarah Palin is directly responsible for her career as a singer.

Well, kind of.

Adele recounted on a BBC special Friday how the former Alaska governor and GOP candidate for vice president made an appearance on "Saturday Night Live" in October, 2008 during the height of the presidential campaign when Adele, then still relatively unknown, was the show’s musical guest.

That was the episode where Palin and Tina Fey, playing Sarah Palin, famously acknowledged one another during the show's cold opening.

"It was one of the most watched SNLs ever and then it was two weeks before the Grammy ballot, which is when people decide what songs they want to maybe nominate, so, like, literally the stars aligned for me," she said. "The album shot to number one on iTunes and I was nominated for a Grammy and then I won one! It was a joke! It was a joke. All thanks to Sarah Palin!"

Upon hearing of Adele’s story, Palin sent her a copy of her book “Sweet Freedom” with an inscription in which she said in part: “So… rumor has it you recently threw me some credit for your amazing success – very kind coming from someone like you.”
