My idea of a perfect weekend includes getting my mani-pedi time in. I go in to the nail salon and read all the fun OPI nail color names and then ponder which nude will I wear this week. Last week it was “hearts and Tarts” from OPI. I then sit down, relax, catch up on all the rag mags and I am ready to go.
Lately though I have been going out of my nude box and trying bright fashion colors like Portobello from Nails Inc. It wasn’t as fun as all the nail art showing up in all the runways and top fashion sites and Olympians from all over the world.
Why have I not jumped on this new trend? What was I waiting for to be fun and cool?
You can get nail art that is fun and matches your mood or your outfit. Feeling sexy and full of animal magnetism get a leopard or zebra print on your nails. You want more of cute girly look then have sweet pastel colors with flowers painted on your nails.
Want to channel your Yayoi Kusama? Do lots of fun polka dots in red and white like the Fifth Avenue Louis Vuitton windows.
You can also have bling on your nails. I love this trend because, like most girls, anything shiny makes me happy. There is glitter polish you can wear that adds sparkle to your nails. Nail sparkle is the perfect finish to an evening outfit from Carlos Miele.
Last year the big nail talk was about matte nail polish. This is year it is about velvet finish nail polish. I get giddy just thinking of this. So cool to have fabric finish nails. Sephora carries the velvet manicure kit from Ciate. I love the look of a velvet nail with this Fall brocade fashion pieces like the ones in the Oscar de la Renta collection.
The other exciting kit is the Ciate Caviar Manicure. This is the big rage in London and all the runways. The look is a 3D pearl beads that look like cavier. You can get them in black pearls, mother or pearl or rainbow. The caviar drenched nail looks beautiful with soft looks from Marchesa.
The latest greatest nail polish from Illamasqua is the “rubber varnish” This polish has a finish that looks like its name implies, rubber. It is the mixture of matte and jelly polish that gives it this cool effect. I can see this being worn with all architectural designs of Narciso Rodriguez.
I am not sure if I will ever be the girl that does polka dots and leopard print but my manicure this weekend is going to be a little different.
My inspiration is Jessica Biel’s red carpet look of chrome tips on a backdrop of pretty pink. She wore a pink strapless fresh off the runway Christian Dior dress and this was the perfect nail for the dress.
I’m changing my manicure, one tip at a time.
