Maybe they did it for the money, the fame, or for true love, but why would anyone submit themselves, let alone their relationship, to the unforgiving pressures of reality television? From the singer Jessica Simpson’s cringe-worthy “Chicken of the Sea” moment on TV’s “Newlyweds” to the drama of “Bachelor Pad,” our friends at Snakkle.com look at these ill-fated reality TV show matches and marriages that didn’t survive real life.

Bethenny Frankel & Jason Hoppy of “Bethenny Getting Married?”
Food and fitness entrepreneur and “Real Housewives of New York City” cast member Bethenny Frankel seemed to have it all. Especially when she met businessman Jason Hoppy in 2008, which led to the Bravo reality TV spin-offs “Bethenny Getting Married?” and “Bethenny Ever After.” Bethenny’s 2010 marriage, her real or imagined conflicts and in-depth look at, well, every aspect of her life kept ratings up, but perhaps at a more personal cost. The couple recently made the new when they filed for divorce in 2013.

Kate & Jon Gosselin of “Jon & Kate Plus 8”
Originally an unknown family from a small town, the Gosselins attracted local media attention when their attempt to have a third child culminated in sextuplets. The family was offered a reality series that would chronicle their lives, “Jon & Kate Plus 8.” They were filmed three to four days a week, drawing criticism concerning the exploitation of their children. In 2009, two years after the show started airing, the couple announced their plans to divorce. “Jon & Kate Plus 8” became just “Kate Plus 8.” The show must go on!

Jillian Harris & Ed Swiderski from “The Bachelor”
After being eliminated by Jason Mesnick in Season 13 of “The Bachelor,” Season 5 of “The Bachelorette” (which aired in 2009) would be Jillian Harris’ year. You’d think with ABC’s good track record of selecting eligible-future-husbands, one of them would be The One. Jillian gave her ‘final rose’ to Ed Swiderski, a technology consultant from Michigan, but their relationship wilted in July 2010.
