The wife of imprisoned Caracas mayor Antonio Ledezma is asking the Organization of American States to intervene on the opposition leader's behalf.

Mitzy Ledezma met with officials Tuesday at the regional organization's Caracas headquarters.

Venezuela's socialist administration has opened cases against 33 of the country's 50 opposition mayors, according to the Venezuelan Mayors Association. Ledezma's arrest last month on charges of plotting against the government provoked spontaneous demonstrations and drew international condemnation.
