JOHANNESBURG – The family of a Swedish citizen who was killed on her honeymoon in Cape Town, have asked her husband to testify in his ongoing murder trial.
British businessman Shrien Dewani is accused of arranging his wife Anni's murder on their honeymoon in Cape Town in 2010. Dewani has pleaded not guilty to charges including murder and kidnapping. In a statement read out by his lawyers, Dewani said his wife was killed in a botched carjacking.
On Wednesday, Anish Hindocha, the brother of Anni, asked Dewani to tell the full story of the murder.
Dewani's lawyers have asked the court to dismiss the case on the grounds that prosecutors had insufficient evidence. Hindocha said he expected the trial to continue.
The judge is expected to rule on Dec. 8.
