Venezuela´s government launches Ministry of Urban Farming

The Bolivar Crop Center in downtown Caracas, one of the best examples of urban farming in Venezuela.

The Bolivar Crop Center is a of 2,500 m2 space where pro-government groups grow 20 different products.

The Urban Farming Ministry encourages people to grow crops on any available place. They suggest building wooden tables to do it in balconies.

Government supporters and urban producers met with the new Urban Farming minister earlier this week.

The socialist government is offering workshops and classes to enlighten those who know nothing about farming. 

More than 1,000 urban farmers attended a meeting earlier this week. Even though it’s the first time that Venezuela creates a ministry of Urban Farming, the idea is not entirely new in the country.

Minister Emma Ortega, right, spoke with different urban farmers gathered at the first meeting held on the issue.
