Iraqi officials say a suicide bomber has struck an Iraqi army patrol in western Baghdad, killing four soldiers and wounding 11 others.

Thursday's explosion took place in the former Sunni insurgent stronghold of Abu Ghraib.

Police and hospital officials say all the casualties were Iraqi soldiers.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Violence has dropped dramatically across Iraq but Iraqi security officials are still targeted by insurgents who want to destabilize the country.
