JOHANNESBURG – Police in South Africa say a man has been charged with his wife's murder, days after local media reported that the heartfelt eulogy he delivered at her funeral was plagiarized.
Police spokeswoman Brig. Marinda Mills said in a statement that Christopher Panayiotou appeared in court in Port Elizabeth on Monday. Mills said Panayiotou was arrested last week, following the arrest of another man also accused of the murder. A third man was also arrested.
Police said schoolteacher Jayde Panayiotou, 28, was abducted in the coastal city of Port Elizabeth on Apr. 21. She was shot to death.
A local news site, News24, reported that parts of the moving eulogy Christopher Panayiotou read at his wife's funeral were cut and pasted from a tribute seen online and written by another man.
