Slovenia's prime minister says she's resigning, and is urging early parliamentary elections to be called in June.
Alenka Bratusek is stepping down after losing her Positive Slovenia party leadership to Mayor Zoran Jankovic of Ljubljana, the capital of the small Balkan nation.
Bratusek announced her plans after a meeting of coalition partners on Saturday. A formal announcement was expected Monday.

She said a snap election would be in the country's interest. Lawmakers can also try to choose a new premier rather than hold early elections.
Bratusek started a four-year term in March 2013 after a previous government collapsed over corruption allegations and its slow response to economic turmoil.
Her center-left government launched reforms that enabled the crisis-stricken country to overhaul bad bank loans and avoid seeking European Union bailout help.
