Police chief, bodyguard found slain in central Mexico

Mexican officials say the police chief of the central Mexico city of Celaya and one of his bodyguards have been found slain.

The federal Attorney General's Office says the bodies of Police Chief J. Santos Juarez Rocha and the bodyguard were discovered Monday on the outskirts of the nearby city of Salamanca.

The office says its Homicide Investigation Unit and Criminal Investigation Agency will be analyzing evidence to try to determine responsibility for the double homicide.

The area around Celaya and Salamanca has been plagued by increased crime recently, especially by fuel theft from national oil pipelines.
