New FBI director named for Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands

A new FBI director has been named for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Carlos Cases will oversee FBI operations in both U.S. territories. He previously was director for Latin America and the southwest border for the FBI's criminal investigations division in Washington, D.C.

Cases also has worked at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City and at an FBI office in Puerto Rico, where he was honored for his participation in one of the bureau's largest public corruption cases that targeted local law enforcement officials.

Cases said Tuesday that he plans to work with federal and local authorities to fight drug trafficking, organized crime and public corruption.

He replaces special agent in charge Joseph Campbell.
