Minister: Iceland refused FBI aid over WikiLeaks investigation in 2011
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Iceland's interior minister says he ordered the country's national police not to cooperate with FBI agents sent to investigate secret-busting site WikiLeaks and that it escalated into a diplomatic spat.
Ogmundur Jonasson told The Associated Press that the FBI agents were sent to the country to interview an unidentified WikiLeaks associate in August of 2011.
Jonasson's comments offered a rare glimpse into the workings of the U.S. investigation into WikiLeaks, a site which has repeatedly embarrassed Washington with spectacular releases of classified documents.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Jonasson said Friday that Icelandic officials protested the FBI trip to their American counterparts. The FBI did not immediately return an email seeking comment.
