Mexican cops are looking to put a cruel couple behind bars for allegedly keeping their own son locked in a cage inside their Mexico City apartment.

Lisette Guzman Montoya, 28, and Menajem Jurado, 33, are accused of being the malicious mom and dad who left their son inside a tiny cage with the family dog lashed to the outside of it.

The boy is believed to be between 4 and 6 years old.

This despicable discovery was made when campaign workers for a local politician showed up doing some door-to-door work.

“Our people knocked on the door and as they waited, they heard a child crying,” politician Evaristo Roberto Candia Ortega said, according to the New York Post. “When they looked round the corner of the house they saw a little boy standing in a cage weeping with a dog chained to it.”

While it appeared that nobody was home besides the caged boy and the cocker spaniel, when the political crew decided to snap a photo as evidence an enraged man ran out of the house to confront the stunned political workers.

“Somebody came out of the house and was very aggressive,” Ortega said. “They [the campaigners] decided to get away to call the police. It was clear to my party colleagues that the man was either on drugs or very drunk.”

“When they returned with the police, the place was empty and both the child and dog had gone,” he added.

Ortega said that his staff spoke to some of the neighbors of the appalling parents and they told them that the child was frequently left outside because the parents – supposedly drug addicts – didn’t want to take care of their son.

Police in Mexico City have had little luck tracking down the parents and the little boy, so Ortega decided to raise awareness by posting the photo of the caged boy on his Twitter account.

“I put the photograph onto Twitter because I want these people found,” Ortega said, according to the Daily Mail. “I find it disgusting that anyone would lock up their child and leave him in those conditions.”

Mexican authorities said that they are doing everything they can do to rescue the boy and bring his parents to justice.

“We are aware of who these people are and are diverting resources into finding them as quickly as we can so that the little boy will be safe,” a police spokesperson said.
