Man charged with hate crime in Iowa City says he's 'allergic to black people'
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Andy Benavidez, 47, says he’s “allergic to black people.” At least that’s what he told the police in Iowa City following a violent assault on an unnamed African-American man.
Benavidez told police he tussled with the man simply because he was black, according to KGAN. Benavidez wears a surgical mask to protect himself from catching germs.
The alleged victim told police that Benavidez took the first blow and used racial slurs during the fight.
