JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. – A young Kansas City, Kan., cancer patient got to share in a Christmas Eve experience most kids only dream about. Complete with a flight on an airplane, young Caroline Lopez aka "Snowflake Princess" flew to the North Pole.
From more than a hundred Christmas trees, to rows and rows of presents, elves and letters to Santa, there was no doubt the North Pole was in full swing on Christmas Eve.
Caroline Lopez ,6, has been battling a brain tumor for more than a year.
“Since Caroline got diagnosed last year, it's actually brought our family a lot closer,” her mother Janna Lopez said.
Thursday morning, the first-grader, her mother and brothers boarded a plane at Kansas City's downtown airport.
The group flew to the Johnson County Executive Airport, where Hangar 2 had been transformed into the North Pole.
When “Princess Caroline” de-boarded, she was greeted by Santa and dozens of his elves. She petted a real reindeer, saw Santa's letter station, and even took a peek at Santa's naughty and nice list. She took a walk by the gift station, through candy land, and back to the plane. The experience was far more than Caroline's mother imagined.
“To see a smile on her face after such a hard road that she's been through, there's just no words,” her mother said.
No detail was skipped, no expense spared. Today's North Pole visit was all about Caroline.
“When you see your child go through such a hard time and then to have something amazing like this happen to her. This is our Christmas miracle. This is fantastic,” Lopez said.
Hundreds of volunteers helped make all of this possible for Caroline and asked to remain anonymous.
