Lawyer for 2 Americans detained in UAE says US can do more
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}A defense attorney for two Libyan-Americans imprisoned in the United Arab Emirates says the U.S. government can do more to ensure they receive greater medical attention and are released.
Greg Craig told reporters Monday his clients have been subjected to torture and are not receiving adequate medical care. He says that while U.S. officials have raised the case with Emirati decision makers, the "government can do more."
The four defendants in the case are Libyan-American Kamal Eldarat, 59; his son Mohammed Eldarat, 34; Libyan-Canadian Sami Alaradi, 46; and Libyan national Issa Almanna.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}The four have been under arrest since August 2014. They initially faced terrorism-related charges. Craig says those charges were dropped and they are now charged with illegally raising funds.
A verdict is expected May 30.
