Kenya official: Refugee camp blast kills policeman

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

A Kenyan official says a policeman has died after the car he was traveling in was hit by a suspected improvised bomb at the world's largest refugee camp, near the border with Somalia.

George Kingi, police chief in Daadab refugee camp, said Tuesday that three other officers who were escorting aid workers were wounded in the blast.

Kingi says the suspected bomb was planted along the path the convoy of vehicles was using.

The attack is similar to several others the government has blamed on a Somalia-based al-Qaida-linked militant group. Al-Shabab militants in Somalia have vowed to carry out terrorist attack on Kenya for sending its troops into Somalia. Kenya says its military incursion into Somalia is a reaction to a wave of kidnappings on Kenyan soil it blames on al-Shabab.
