Kashmir students clash with India police after lockdown ends

Students protesting Indian rule in disputed Kashmir have clashed with government forces after authorities reopened schools following the killings of 13 rebels.

Government forces on Thursday fired tear gas to stop students from marching at several colleges in the Indian-controlled Kashmir's main city of Srinagar.

Clashes also erupted in other parts of Kashmir as students raised anti-India slogans and demanded an end of Indian rule over the region. They also hurled rocks at security forces.

The students were protesting the killings of 13 rebels on Sunday in fighting with Indian troops and five civilians.

India and Pakistan each administer part of Kashmir, but claim the territory in its entirety.
