Jordan: Libya arrests 4 Jordanians

Published November 17, 2014

Associated Press

Jordan's foreign ministry says four Jordanians have been arrested in Libya.

Last week, Jordan urged Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi to halt a bloody crackdown on his citizens. Jordan said it holds Libya responsible for the safety of foreigners living there.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammed Kayed said Monday that the reason for the arrest of the four Jordanians was unclear. He said it appears some were detained in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

Kayed said Jordan's ambassador is pursuing the matter with Libyan authorities.

Of the 9,000 Jordanians who work and study in Libya, about 2,000 have been repatriated during the current rebellion against Gadhafi.
