Indonesian police and the brother of an Indonesian militant who was shown killing a foreigner in an Islamic State group video say he was killed last month in a battle with U.S.-backed forces in Syria.
National police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo said Monday that Muhammad Saifuddin, who used the alias Abu Walid, was killed by shrapnel on Jan. 29 in eastern Deir Ezzor province.
Saifuddin's older brother, Muinudinillah Basri, said the family has not received official information about Walid's death but has seen a photo of his body and recognized him.
