Germans honors Jewish soldiers; others
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Germany's defense minister has honored the 395 Jewish soldiers who died serving their homeland in World War I as part of services marking the National Day of Mourning.
The wreath-laying ceremony attended by Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg at Berlin's main Jewish ceremony on Sunday was one of several events nationwide to honor Germany's victims of war and violence.
German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle was to lead the main memorial ceremony in parliament later in the day.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}West Germany instituted the National Day of Mourning in 1952. The states of the former East Germany adopted the tradition in 1992, following reunification.
