German police officer on trial in slaying of man who fantasized about being killed and eaten

BERLIN – A German police handwriting expert is on trial over accusations he killed and chopped up a man he met in an Internet cannibalism chat forum.

Detlev G., whose last name hasn't been released, is charged with murder and defilement of a corpse in the November slaying of a 59-year-old businessman from Hannover who had fantasized about being killed and eaten. Prosecutors say there is no evidence the suspect ate parts of his victim.

Defense attorney Endrik Wilhelm has maintained the victim killed himself and that his 56-year-old client, who went on trial in Dresden state court Friday, doesn't have it in him to kill anyone.

The suspect directed authorities to a number of places around his property south of Dresden where the remains were buried following his arrest last year.
