BERLIN – A French woman suspected of being a member of a now-defunct left-wing guerrilla group in Chile has been arrested in Germany.
Marie Emmanuelle Verhoeven was captured while trying to board a flight from Hamburg to Dubai late Saturday.
A police statement says the 54-year-old has been wanted since 1996 on an international arrest warrant for murder, forming a terrorist organization and grievous bodily harm resulting in death.
Verhoeven allegedly was a member of the Manuel Rodriguez Patriotic Front set up in the 1980s to fight the 1973-90 dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet.
A German security official familiar with the case told The Associated Press on Monday that Verhoeven was traveling on a valid French passport.
He spoke on condition of anonymity as he wasn't authorized to publicly divulge the information.
