French President Francois Hollande will travel to Berlin next week to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel for talks about the euro.

Officials in Paris and Berlin said Thursday that Hollande will make his second visit to the German capital on Aug. 23.

Hollande's first visit was in May, hours after he assumed office as is tradition for German and French leaders.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the visit hasn't been formally announced yet.

Hollande's trip takes place a day before Merkel receives new Greek Prime Minister Georgios Samaras in Berlin to discuss his country's financial rescue program.

Greece has been among the countries hardest hit by the public debt crisis gripping the eurozone and the government is seeking a delay for the implementation of austerity measures.
