Flooding in Albania prompts evacuations, road closures

Hundreds of people have been evacuated from their homes in Albania, where heavy rainfall has caused flooding, landslides, and road closures.

Police said Wednesday that more than 200 people were evacuated from homes in the north of the country, where emergency flood measures were imposed along parts of the Drini River.

The Interior Ministry said floods also affected the outskirts of the capital, Tirana, where more than two dozen families were moved from their homes. Many highways and regional roads have also been temporarily blocked following landslides.

But the rain has also helped some remote areas, clearing heavy snow that had blocked road access.

No deaths or serious injuries have been reported.
