The father of a 23-year-old student who died after being gang raped on a bus in India says he wants her name to be made public to help other sexual assault victims.
"My daughter didn't do anything wrong, she died while protecting herself," the father told Britain’s Sunday People newspaper, according to Reuters. “Revealing her name will give courage to other women who have survived these attacks. They will find strength from my daughter."
Laws in India prohibit the identification of sexual abuse victims for privacy purposes. But Indian politician Shashi Tharoor has proposed naming a new anti-rape law after the woman, and last week questioned keeping her anonymous, Reuters reports.
