Alan Gross, 65, was convicted by a Cuban court in March 2011 of “acts against the independence or the territorial integrity of the state," and is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence. He was originally arrested while working to set up internet networks for the island's Jewish community on a contract with USAID. Matthew Todd Miller is one of three Americans being held by North Korea. On Sunday he was sentenced to six years of hard labor for committing "hostile acts" as a tourist to the isolated country. Miller entered North Korea last April and allegedly tore up his tourist visa and demanded Pyongyang grant him asylum, according to a release from state media at the time.![Kenneth Bae]()

American couple Matthew and Grace Huang were jailed in Qatar on murder charges in January 2013, following the death of their daughter, Gloria. They were charged with starving their 8-year-old adopted daughter to death in the Gulf Arab country and sentenced to three years in prison in a verdict that stunned and shocked the family.
