Eurozone, EU finance ministers meeting in Athens
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Finance ministers from the eurozone and the wider European Union are gathering in Athens amid tight security, with Greece hoping for a gesture of support for the release of long-delayed funds from the country's multi-billion-euro bailout.
Arriving for the meeting Tuesday morning, Greek Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras said discussions would focus on the EU's growth and financial stability, social implications of the crisis, financing of the economy and banking union among other topics.
Greece has been dependent on rescue loans from other eurozone countries and the International Monetary Fund since May 2010. In return, its economy has been under close supervision by the IMF, European Central Bank and European Commission.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Ministers are also expected to discuss Portugal, which also received a bailout.
