Egypt, Saudi Arabia aim to enhance military, economic cooperation
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Egypt and Saudi Arabia say they aim to boost military, economic, and social ties and pursue their common interests.
In a statement released after a meeting between President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi and Saudi Defense Minister and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Thursday, el-Sissi's office says the two leaders also will work to create a joint Arab military force.
In what they called a "Cairo Declaration," they pledged to enhance cooperation and investments in the energy and transport sectors.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Saudi Arabia has given Egypt billions of dollars in aid since the military overthrew an Islamist president in 2013, and Egypt is currently participating in a Saudi-led air campaign against Shiite rebels in Yemen. Army commanders of Arab states are planning a joint force for interventions in regional crises.
