Chinese premier arrives in Colombia as part of 4-nation South American investment tour
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}China's Premier Li Keqiang arrived Thursday in Colombia as part of a four-nation South American tour aimed at boosting trade and investment.
Li is the highest-ranking Chinese official to visit the Andean nation since the two nations established economic ties three decades ago.
Despite being one of the region's most-dynamic economies, Colombia has lagged behind its South American neighbors in expanding trade with China. Li said in an article published Thursday in the Bogota newspaper El Tiempo that bilateral trade with Colombia is just 6 percent of the Asian giant's overall trade with Latin America.
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Li and President Juan Manuel Santos are expected to discuss joint investments in areas ranging from agriculture to infrastructure.
Li arrived from Brazil, where he pledged investments of $53 billion over the next six years.
