Brazil Carnival Road Deaths Jump 30%
{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}As of just before midnight on Tuesday, 189 people have lost their lives in highway car crashes during the 2011 Carnival season, according to Brazil's Federal Highway Police (PRF).
This represents an increase of almost 30 percent increase over last year, reports the daily O Globo. Cranival doesn't officially come to a close till midnight Wednesday.
In addition to the highway deaths, the Federal Police also reported less tragic Carnival numbers:

- Thirty-thousand blood alcohol tests have been performed, 3,124 of which registered illegal levels.
- Police have stopped and checked 142,369 cars.
